Successful athletes of multiple age and experience levels train at the Alexandria Boxing Club. In 2014 alone, ALX athletes won eight national championship titles, ranging from the junior level up to the elite division. In addition, our own professional middleweight prospect Antoine Douglas added four more wins to his record.

When Iesha first came to the Alexandria Boxing Club, she chose to watch from the sidelines and read a book while other athletes trained. Eventually she stepped in to the ring herself and she’s enjoyed nothing but success since. The honor student, violinist and accomplished softball player has built quite the resume since choosing to take up the sweet science. Kenney has gone on to win national titles at the junior and youth level and even enjoyed success internationally. She took a bronze medal at the first-ever Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships last year and hopes to add another international medal to her trophy case at the 2015 event. She credits Coach Koroma’s belief in her as her biggest inspiration to be successful in the ring.

The veteran of the Alexandria Boxing Club squad, Dara Shen juggles her duties as a Construction Project Manager with her hours in the gym. After participating in the first-ever U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing, Shen traveled to her family’s native Taiwan and won their Olympic Trials. She won her first USA Boxing National Championship earlier this year, and has notably competed internationally in the Asian Games and two World Championships. Known as the “Den Mother” to her Alexandria Boxing Club teammates, she is motivated by her mother who, as an immigrant, raised four young children while pursuing her J.D.

The youngest member of the Alexandria Boxing Club’s squad of national champions, Kavon Robertson travels a long distance to be able to train with Coach Koroma and his Alexandria Boxing Club family. His father and Koroma met at a boxing show when the youngster was nine years old and he’s been traveling from Staunton to Alexandria, Va., since that point. Robertson spends much of his summer in Koroma’s long-term boxing camps as well and won his first National Silver Gloves title this past February in Kansas.
